Sweet Faced Criminals

I believe that the purpose of human beings is to take care of each other, to nurture each other and complement each other. But not everyone is able to do that properly, thus each one of us are surrounded by a group of people who aid us in our development and sometimes under-development.

Instead we destroy each other, each trying to survive from the other. We form excuses and ideas to justify our action, so that we don’t feel guilty when we hurt the other person. Each one is an individual and yet we are so connected. We work on the individuality to set us apart from others; in return we learn to become better at one thing or another. We work hard at harnessing it to its full potential so that we are admired by our colleague and family members. During that time when we are busy harnessing that, we loose some things along the way. We cultivate a culture of nonchalance; using God as our ally.

When often try to acquire too much without understanding or comprehending it, we tend to break rules of nature. By breaking these rules, we start stumbling. This is when we make the silliest of mistakes, so unmatched to our standing or status. Due to our mistakes we may affect others who are innocent or naïve, and change their lives. This is a crime so unseen and unprotected. We become sweet faced criminals, worst form of terrorism to mankind!

Boundary

I am sitting in a plane, traveling across the globe in a 25 hour journey. As I am waiting for the journey to start, I wait in anticipation who is the person I would be sitting with. It is like fate that that person shares everything you do with you…eat with you, sleep with you (lol..sounds weird!) and share that little space with you. If you are sitting in the middle then you have 2 people, one on your left and one on your right.

The boundary set by the airlines, the limited space, the type of food served, the timings of the food, and the usage of the small and compact bathroom is so carefully crafted and determined for us. We have no say in anything, except perhaps the seating arrangements, provided we did early booking of the ticket. We must at that point conform to the guidelines set by the airlines if we were to reach that destination we journey on.

Isn’t life like this? Aren’t we too on a journey? We live in boundaries set for us. Then we try to expand our boundaries. In the process we experience joy and sorrow, and we move on. Don’t the people we anticipate and sit next to us on the plane similar to the relationships we foster in this lifetime. Some great mathematician up there uses an algorithm that mathematically bounds us to those around us for a purpose. Isn’t life simply fascinating!

Chase

We are all chasing for something in life. It can be money, happiness, personal contentment, love, education etc. The list can be quite endless. But do you notice we always chase something that we don't have, or cannot have? Then we do it with great valor, as if our sole purpose on this planet is that single purpose defined in chasing the object of our need.

I lagged behind in many things. But now I am on the "run". I am chasing my life. I feel I am left behind as compared to my counterparts, and over the past two years, I have done quite a bit. But my chase continues, I am clear of my goals and pursuits. The one thing I learnt from this is that to do it requires alot of patience and perseverance. I did not give up even on days things look bleak. I did not give up even when others made it difficult for me. I kept on the journey.
I think if all of us are clear with that, then the speed to "run" increases and we can reach that finishing line. But beware if your chase depends on another person, or if you allow another person to guide you in misguiding you, your effort would be futile.

What are you chasing?

Deafening Conversations

I am no longer able to participate in aimless conversations. They are deafening to me. Silence gives me the lessons of life that I seek, not sound. Of course it is not the same for all, some depend on music and some on friends, some on spouses and some on the goals they wish to achieve, but I depend on silence.
I spent the last 24 hours in silence and loneliness. In itself it is almost a form of meditation. Thoughts and emotions pass me, yet I learnt about myself, my strengths and weaknesses. Is it that important, you may ask? Yes it is to me. I believe in self indulgence to check myself. I should not be a mystery to me. I must know myself if I ever want someone else to know me. I must understand myself to recognize the other person outside me. I go through the entire spectra of life and my participation in it. I analysis my response to my surroundings, and being a woman, I tend to have higher emotional sensitivity as compared to a man. I analyze this too.

The Mirror has Two Faces
[picture for illustration purposes only, it is not the author of the blog]

I am looking at myself in the mirror. I am asking myself...what if my life had been different, what if I was born in a different family or a different country...will be I be conditioned by them and fight for different purposes in life or would I still have the same basic character that sustains itself across any culture.

If that basic character is what will sustain and shape me, then why should my religion, citizenship or the color of my skin matter? I should be the same person regardless to where or which family I was born into. I should still enjoy a particular music, perhaps the language differs, my inclination to things should be the same, perhaps in a different make, my spirit to live would be similar, if not the same, however my situation may be. If my basic character is missing, would I not be another being fighting for a cause because of a certain conditioning in upbringing and to things that I am ignorant of. Wouldn't this path be misleading?

The question is then does it matter if I am a Christian, or a Hindu or a Muslim? Doesn't that seem like a membership into a big club called religion? Don't get me wrong...I believe in religions, but much more than that I believe that God exists and that he made us equal, for none of us posses an extra eye, or the nose is located somewhere else, nor the lips are used for something else beyond eating. Look around you, everybody have their eyes, ears, nose, lips, hands, feet, stomach in exactly the same place, nothing is out of place. I am sure if God practised religion, he would have not created us in equal characteristics. Even scientist had found that our DNA in genome sequencing are 99.9 % same. It is just the 0.01% that made the difference that contributes to the rest.

Why then with so much of all this similarities among us, why do we highlight the 0.01% differences? Why do we strive to be different, to stand out in a crowd of people and make everyone else less important? Why do we concentrate on acquiring fortune and fame, fight against our own and not think to leave some for those who truly need them? Aren't we brothers and sisters in a broad sense of the word itself? Do we only know how to destroy each other, despite having so much education, or sense or religion. Haven't we learnt enough to behave? Aren't storms, hurricanes floods or any other natural disasters the nature's way of telling us something...?

Due to our 0.09% indifferences, we have wars. They only help destroy our very own kind, mankind. There remains nothing kind about man anymore. Are we just many faces in a mirror, moved by things so trivial and fight for something that should not be there in the first place. Can we look at ourselves in the mirror, strip ourselves of our wordly positions, the status we are in and see beyond that? What do you think we see? Do you see just what you want or see the real you just staring back? Is the mirror you are seeing showing you something so untrue?

Slippery Slope

(Picture taken from http://www.lelykopters.nl/)

Doing a difficult task is possible. Understanding and accepting the challenge is easy. But what happens if the task to do it is on a slippery slope? Each climb does not necessarily bring you higher, instead it can bring you lower than where you started. You climb and climb, and yet you slip, sometimes little and sometimes too much. This makes the climb hard.

This is how my graduate education had been for me. On my first attempt; I was on a slippery slope. At this point, upon my second attempt, I am succeeding, I am almost done. What made the difference? The slope is still slippery, but what changes the failure to success made? It must be that I must have learnt from my previous failure. What did I learn? I learnt to be graceful at every step I take. I did not crib nor cry, I put my effort and tried again. I did not give up (I could have), instead I took the challenge and journeyed it again.

I believe we all have some slippery slopes in our lives, for me it is education and for others...it could be something else. I think the best approaches towards these difficult slopes are to try again when you fail. Failure is not to be seen as a negative element, it actually provides feedback to things that require more attention than others. What are your slippery slopes?
